95% salary increase, anyone?
Recently I posted on social media about finding out that the average salary increases of the last 10 successes of WINners, had been a whopping 95.2%, not to mention the added respect, joy and other goodness they had created during these negotiations.
Truth be told, I was hesitant to share these results. I told my team I didn’t think people would believe these numbers; they were just too high to comprehend.
95% salary increases for promotions and new roles?!
It’s insane, truly. I mean: even I recalculated a few times, to make sure the number was correct because I couldn’t quite believe it at first.
But my team convinced me I should share it, adding the messages from WINners that I based my calculation on as proof. They convinced me career women deserve to know what is possible for them.
I am glad I did, because we received a lot of positive feedback regarding how inspirational this news was. Mission accomplished, woooop!
And… I definitely got some pushback of people who didn’t think these results were real – despite the evidence being there for all the world to see.
And that made me sad. Not because I cannot handle pushback (believe me, I have had a lot worse lobbed at me…). But because it is so evidently an expression of the view they hold of the world and of what is possible (or not) for them in that world.
If you don’t think something is available to you, you’re not going to go after it. And if you don’t go after it, you’re not going to get it, thus creating a depressing self-fulfilling prophecy.
